Pune: Three Years On, Mohamadwadi Fire Station Still Awaits Completion
Pune, September 15, 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) Late Gulab Baburao Ghule Fire Station at Krishna Nagar, Mohamadwadi, remains incomplete even after three years of construction. Despite the rapid urbanisation of Mohamadwadi, Undri, Pisoli, Wadachi Wadi, and Handewadi, residents still await a fully functional fire station in their vicinity.
The issue was also raised in the recently held meeting with PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore in Mohamadwadi where he instructed the officials to take up the matter on priority.
Pune Pulse had published an article 3 years ago about the incomplete work at the fire station. Since, there has been no movement on the project and it had become a sorting shed for SWaCH for a long period.
Currently, the nearest operational fire stations are located in Kondhwa Budruk, Kondhwa Khurd, and Hadapsar—leaving this growing region vulnerable in case of emergencies. A functional fire station in Mohamadwadi could significantly reduce response time during incidents and enhance safety for thousands of residents.
For now, complaints and emergency calls from the Mohamadwadi, Undri region are being attended through the Kondhwa and Hadapsar fire stations. However, residents and civic activists argue that the three-year waiting period for completion reflects poor planning and negligence in addressing critical infrastructure needs.
The completion of the Mohamadwadi fire station will not only fill a vital gap in emergency services but also serve as a much-needed safety net for one of Pune’s fastest-growing residential belts.Repeated attempts to reach out to the fire department did not yield any result.
