Pune, November 14, 2025: Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park and Wildlife Research Centre in Katraj is set to welcome new residents, including zebras and lion-tailed macaques, as part of ongoing redevelopment plans. To support this expansion and ensure the zoo’s financial sustainability, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has proposed a hike in ticket prices.

The PMC will put the proposal for approval on Thursday, which includes raising adult tickets from Rs 40 to Rs 60 and children’s tickets from Rs 10 to Rs 20. Foreign visitors will now be charged Rs 150 instead of Rs 100, while students from private and government schools will pay Rs 20 and Rs 10, respectively.

“The zoo’s operational expenses, including animal care, staff salaries, and maintenance, far exceed current revenue. With the upcoming developments, these costs will rise further,” said Naval Kishore Ram, PMC Municipal Commissioner.

The zoo currently houses a variety of animals such as tigers, lions, leopards, sloth bears, blackbucks, spotted deer, chinkaras, sambar deer, monkeys, reptiles, snakes, and several bird species. New enclosures are being built for zebras, mouse deer, lion-tailed macaques, marmosets, tamarins, and wild dogs as part of the redevelopment of the snake park.

“The ticket prices at our zoo are lower than most other zoos in India. A modest increase will help us enhance visitor facilities and become more self-reliant,” added the commissioner. The last ticket price revision was in November 2018.

The PMC emphasizes that the hike reflects both the growing number of animals and the improved amenities available to visitors, ensuring that the zoo can continue its expansion and maintenance efforts efficiently.
