Pune To Reinstate Alternate-Day Water Supply From July 15 As Dam Storage Remains Low

Pune, July 14, 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will reintroduce alternate-day water supply across the city from July 15, as water levels in the dams supplying Pune remain inadequate despite recent rainfall.

PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram announced the decision on Monday, stating that the temporary suspension of water cuts during the Ashadhi Wari period will come to an end from Tuesday.

The civic body had imposed alternate-day water supply from June 15 to conserve water amid low dam storage. However, the restrictions were temporarily lifted from July 7 to facilitate uninterrupted water supply for lakhs of Warkaris and Palkhi processions staying in Pune during the annual pilgrimage.

The decision to restore daily water supply earlier than planned was taken after continuous rainfall led to a flood-like situation in Alandi due to the rising Indrayani River. Following appeals by the Chief Minister and district authorities, many Warkari groups arrived in Pune from July 7 instead of proceeding directly to Alandi, prompting the PMC to ensure regular water supply throughout the pilgrimage period.

Although the region received rainfall for nearly a week, only around 17 TMC of water has been added to the city’s reservoir system. With rainfall activity subsiding over the past three days, the civic administration has decided to resume water conservation measures.

Commissioner Ram said the alternate-day water supply schedule will remain in force until the dams supplying Pune reach full storage capacity. The PMC will review the situation and withdraw the restrictions once reservoir levels improve sufficiently.
