Pune, December 13, 2025: The issue of worsening traffic congestion in Pune and its surrounding areas was discussed during the Winter Session of the State Legislature, with ministers sharing key updates on major infrastructure projects, including the Pune Ring Road, metro corridors and important road developments.

To ease traffic congestion, work on the Pune Ring Road, along with several road and metro projects, is currently underway. The eastern section of the Ring Road is scheduled to be completed by May 2028, while the western section is targeted for completion by May 2026, informed Minister Dada Bhuse while responding to a calling attention notice raised by MLA Rahul Kul. MLAs Sunil Shelke and Abhijit Patil also participated in the discussion.

Minister Bhuse stated that major projects such as the Ring Road, development of key roads through MSRDC and MSIDC, and the Hadapsar–Loni Kalbhor Metro Corridor are being implemented to address traffic congestion, particularly in Pune’s rural areas.

Hadapsar–Loni Kalbhor Metro Corridor Moves Ahead

MahaMetro has approved the 11.8-km metro corridor, and a Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been prepared. To address technical challenges such as flyover crossings, officials have been directed to hold separate meetings. Further decisions will be taken after assessing the project’s feasibility, Minister Bhuse said.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed all departments to ensure coordination and conduct periodic reviews on project approvals, land acquisition and execution speed. He has also instructed officials to take necessary steps to ensure smooth traffic movement. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar informed the House that a meeting regarding the Pune–Solapur road has been held and the work will be carried out.

Major Road Projects Fast-Tracked

For the upgradation of important roads in Pune district, MSIDC has intensified work on several projects. The tender process for the Hadapsar–Yavat road project is underway. The cabinet has approved the six-lane Pune–Shirur road, with the tender acceptance process currently in progress.

Land acquisition for the Shirur–Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Greenfield project has been completed, while the tender process for the Talegaon–Chakan–Shikrapur elevated road is ongoing, the minister added.

Pune Ring Road Gains Momentum; East and West Phases Progressing

The government has taken decisive steps to accelerate major infrastructure projects across Pune district. Of the 12 packages of the eastern Ring Road, work on nine packages is progressing rapidly, while the remaining three are in the process of receiving administrative approval. Tenders for these three packages will be completed before May 2026, with on-ground work expected to begin from October 2026.All five packages of the western Ring Road are currently under progress. The completion deadline has been fixed for May 2027 for the western section and May 2028 for the eastern section, Minister Bhuse said.

Committee to Be Formed Under Divisional Commissioner: Minister Uday Samant

Addressing traffic congestion within Pune Municipal Corporation limits, Minister Dr Uday Samant announced that, in addition to the existing committee chaired by the Chief Secretary, a new committee under the chairmanship of the Divisional Commissioner will be constituted, as demanded by public representatives.

Responding to a calling attention notice raised by MLA Bhimrao Tapkir, Dr Samant said the government would consider appointing traffic planners and a dedicated traffic planning department. Public representatives will also be included in the proposed committee to ensure effective resolution of Pune’s traffic congestion issues.
