Pune Traffic Jam: Vehicles Stuck For Hours As Chakan-Ambethan Road Work Triggers Massive Congestion

Long queues of vehicles stretched across the Pune-Nashik Highway and Talegaon-Chakan Road as road repair work, heavy industrial traffic and diversions created chaos for commuters and MIDC workers.

A major traffic jam brought movement to a crawl across key routes in the Pimpri-Chinchwad and Chakan industrial belt, leaving thousands of commuters stranded for hours. Long queues of vehicles were reported on 29th May on Pune-Nashik Highway and Talegaon-Chakan Road, with congestion stretching up to 6 to 7 kilometres in several locations.

The disruption began after traffic was diverted for road repair work near Ambethan on the Bhamboli-Chakan route. While the repair work covered only a short stretch of road, the resulting traffic restrictions triggered widespread congestion across surrounding roads and industrial areas.

According to officials, traffic diversion measures were introduced to facilitate repair work on a damaged section of road near Ambethan. The work was expected to improve road conditions, but the diversion coincided with heavy weekend movement and regular industrial traffic from the Chakan MIDC region.

As a result, traffic movement slowed significantly on major connecting roads. Vehicle queues gradually built up on both sides of the affected routes, creating bottlenecks that spread to nearby junctions and internal roads.

Drivers, factory employees and local residents faced significant delays throughout the day. Several commuters reported being stuck in traffic for more than two hours, while some stretches witnessed near standstill conditions.

The congestion affected daily travel between Chakan, Bhamboli, Ambethan and surrounding industrial areas. Heavy commercial vehicles further added to the pressure on the already crowded roads, making it difficult for traffic to move smoothly.

Local residents and motorists expressed frustration over the situation, saying the congestion could have been reduced with better planning and traffic management.

The Chakan MIDC area, one of Maharashtra’s largest industrial hubs, witnessed major disruption due to the traffic build-up. Employees travelling to factories, transport operators and logistics vehicles experienced delays as traffic congestion spread across multiple routes connected to the industrial zone.

The increased volume of trucks and commercial vehicles, combined with diversion-related bottlenecks, created a ripple effect that impacted traffic movement far beyond the repair site.

Following reports of severe congestion, traffic police personnel were deployed to manage vehicle movement and ease bottlenecks. Authorities worked to regulate the flow of heavy vehicles and create space for smaller vehicles wherever possible.

Officials also appealed to motorists to use alternate routes and cooperate with traffic management teams until normal movement is restored.

While efforts to clear the congestion continued, authorities indicated that traffic conditions could take time to return to normal due to the large volume of vehicles on the affected roads.
