Pune, February 9, 2026: As part of its Road Safety Campaign, the Pune City Traffic Police Department organised a special counselling and public awareness programme on February 9, 2026, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Police Headquarters, Shivajinagar.

The programme was conducted under the guidance of Ranjan Kumar Sharma, Joint Commissioner of Police, Pune City, and Manoj Patil, Additional Commissioner of Police, Eastern Regional Division, Pune City.

Drivers booked under the Motor Vehicles Act for drunk-and-drive offences in 2025 were specially summoned for face-to-face counselling. The main objective of the initiative was to instil a sense of responsibility among motorists, promote adherence to traffic rules, encourage safe driving practices, and build awareness of social accountability.

During the session, presentations were made on the Road Safety Campaign through social media platforms and the PTP App. Participants were also sensitised about the serious consequences of drunk driving, including fatal accidents, loss of life, legal provisions, and strict punishments prescribed under the law.

Officials emphasised that drunk driving is not just a legal offence but a serious social threat, urging motorists to adopt safe and responsible driving habits.

Around 550 to 600 offenders attended the programme and actively participated in the counselling sessions. Many assured the police authorities that they would not repeat such mistakes in the future and would strictly follow traffic rules.

The Pune City Traffic Police Department also announced that similar awareness and counselling programmes will be conducted regularly in the future. Additionally, all traffic divisions have been instructed to implement special drunk-and-drive enforcement drives with stricter action against offenders.

The initiative was led by Himmat Jadhav, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic Branch, Pune City.
