Pune Traffic Police Offer ₹50,000 Reward To Citizens For Reporting Rule Violations Via App
Pune, February 11, 2026: In a bid to curb traffic violations and ease congestion, the Pune Traffic Police have announced a cash reward of ₹50,000 for the citizen who reports the highest number of valid traffic offences through the official ‘Pune Traffic Police’ (PTP) mobile application in a year.
The announcement was made by Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma during a counselling session for nearly 600 motorists caught driving under the influence of alcohol. The initiative aims to encourage public participation in enforcing traffic discipline across the city.
Which Traffic Violations Can Be Reported?
Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil clarified that citizens can upload photos or videos of the following traffic violations through the mobile app:
- Triple riding on a two-wheeler
- Parking vehicles on footpaths (no-parking zones)
- Using fancy or non-standard number plates
- Rash or reckless driving
- Using a mobile phone while driving
- Double parking
Since its launch, the PTP app has received an overwhelming response from citizens. Authorities reported that approximately 1.8 lakh complaints have been registered so far. After verification, action has been taken against around 1.16 lakh vehicle owners through the issuance of e-challans.
Police officials stated that every submission is carefully reviewed by a dedicated team to prevent wrongful penalties and ensure due process.
During the session, Sharma also urged motorists to strictly follow traffic regulations and consistently wear helmets for their safety. Counselling programmes for drunk driving offenders are conducted every Monday at the Shivajinagar Police Headquarters as part of ongoing efforts to promote responsible driving behaviour.
Officials said the reward scheme is intended not only to penalise violators but also to foster greater civic responsibility among Pune’s residents.
