To address Pune’s growing traffic congestion, Maharashtra Minister Chandrakant Patil held a meeting with Pune Municipal Commissioner recently. The primary focus was on resolving issues related to “missing links” road projects stalled due to landowners refusing to give up land.

The increasing number of vehicles and the slow shift of citizens towards public transport, including metro services, have worsened traffic problems. Many road projects remain incomplete because of land disputes, which further contribute to traffic issues. These “missing links” contribute significantly to congestion. Patil has now taken charge of resolving the issue.

The minister assured that efforts would be made to acquire land quickly. Pune has 33 missing links, with 15 in Kothrud alone. The estimated cost to acquire the required land is ₹850 crore. The state government and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will each contribute half of the amount.

Patil stated that land acquisition issues for missing links would soon be resolved. The government plans to negotiate with landowners to facilitate the process. As the city continues to expand, he emphasized the need for citizens to put pressure on authorities to address issues like encroachments and drug-related concerns.

He also assured that lack of funds would no longer delay PMC projects. He specifically mentioned that the Katraj-Kondhwa road issue would soon be addressed, with work starting as soon as possible.
