A heartbreaking case of dowry harassment has surfaced in Mulshi, Pune. Vaishnavi Hagavane, daughter-in-law of NCP leader Rajendra Hagavane, died by suicide by hanging. Her father, Anil Kaspate, alleged that Vaishnavi was mentally harassed by her in-laws for dowry.

He revealed that he was initially opposed to the marriage and had even said, “I would give my daughter to a beggar, but not to them.” However, Vaishnavi insisted on marrying Shashank Hagavane, and the family eventually agreed.

Kaspate shared that the demands started rising just before the wedding—initially 35 tolas of gold, later 50 tolas, and then a Fortuner SUV instead of a booked MG Hector. Post-mortem reports have revealed that Vaishnavi was brutally assaulted before her death.

Vaishnavi Hagavane’s Family Alleges ₹2 Crore Dowry Harassment, Abuse by In-Laws:

The tragic death of Vaishnavi Hagavane has sparked serious concerns and outrage after her family revealed disturbing claims of harassment and abuse allegedly inflicted by her in-laws. Vaishnavi, who was married to the son of NCP (AP) leader Rajendra Hagavane, died by suicide, leaving behind unanswered questions and a grieving family.

An FIR was registered at Bavdhan Police Station on May 17, detailing the physical and emotional abuse Vaishnavi allegedly endured. Her father disclosed that the mistreatment began within months of her marriage. “She would visit us occasionally and ask for money. She didn’t even have proper clothes,” he shared in an interview with ABP Majha.

He further alleged that Vaishnavi was humiliated and physically assaulted. In one incident, she was reportedly slapped and spat on by her sister-in-law. “Just two months ago, she said she wanted to jump into the river because she couldn’t take it anymore,” her father recounted.

The grieving father also said the family fulfilled numerous dowry demands during and after the wedding. “We gave over 7 kilos of silver, 51 tolas of gold, and a Fortuner car. Even after the marriage, I gifted a gold ring during Adhik month and sent her with ₹50,000 to ₹1 lakh every time she visited,” he said.

He added that despite the family’s efforts to maintain peace and appeal for better treatment, the harassment persisted. “They asked for a phone worth ₹1.5 lakh, and I gave it without hesitation. Still, things didn’t change,” he claimed.

A voice recording has also surfaced online, in which Vaishnavi allegedly expressed deep regret over her marriage and hinted at ongoing abuse.

As the case continues to unfold, there have been increasing demands for justice and accountability from local residents and political observers in Pimpri-Chinchwad.
