Pune, August 19, 2025: A late-night freshers’ party in Mundhwa has drawn sharp criticism from locals after nearly 800–1,000 youngsters gathered without mandatory police or civic approvals. The event, titled ‘Unofficial Freshers 4.0’, allegedly caused public nuisance, traffic chaos, and clashes with residents.

Police have booked hotel owner Faiz Ali, general manager Sachin Yadav, event manager Hank, Aksha Kariya, and representatives of EDM World Event Company — Akshay Swami, Rishabh Khade, and Ayush Bajaj. Officials said the party was organised in defiance of instructions issued a day earlier, which required the venue to submit permissions before hosting such gatherings.

According to the police, liquor was served illegally, prompting the excise department to halt the event. “Around 700–800 youths were present. Once the party was stopped, some participants created chaos outside, leading to confrontations with residents and hotel staff. A separate non-cognisable offence has also been registered against the hotel owner,” police said.

Matters worsened past midnight when intoxicated attendees allegedly smashed bottles, abused residents, and parked vehicles in a way that blocked traffic. A local resident was reportedly assaulted, sparking spontaneous protests demanding immediate closure of the establishment. Citizens alleged that instead of apologising, the hotel management issued threats. Police teams rushed to control the situation, and assistant inspector Kalpana Survase is leading the investigation.

Residents claim the venue has a history of rule violations, frequent ownership changes, and is situated less than 100 metres from a temple — a breach of excise norms. Locals said, “This isn’t about one night. The place has become a hub for underage drinking, late-night nuisance, and illegal construction. Authorities have ignored repeated complaints.”

Locals have demanded a thorough inquiry into the role of the excise department and local police in allowing such unauthorised events to continue.
