Pune University Road Flyover to Open on August 20, Confirms MLA Siddharth Shirole
Pune, August 19, 2025: After several months of delays and mounting frustration among commuters, the much-anticipated University Road flyover will finally be thrown open to the public on Wednesday, August 20. Shivajinagar MLA Siddharth Shirole confirmed the development through a post on X (formerly Twitter).
“The flyover connecting Pune University Chowk to the RBI stretch will be operational from tomorrow. This will ease traffic congestion and bring much-needed relief to daily commuters,” Shirole stated.
On Monday, Shirole conducted a joint inspection of the site with Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) Commissioner Yogesh Mhase, senior Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) officials, traffic police officers, and project contractors.
Highlighting the importance of the project, the MLA said, “The flyover is designed to decongest one of Pune’s busiest stretches and reduce travel time. Our priority is to develop sustainable and future-ready infrastructure that improves the quality of life for Punekars.”
The project, initially expected to open in May, faced repeated delays, sparking anger among residents. Many questioned whether construction work was incomplete or if the inauguration was being deliberately postponed.
Last month, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) workers staged a symbolic inauguration at the site, performing a traditional coconut-breaking and ribbon-cutting ceremony to protest the delays.
With the official launch now confirmed, citizens are hopeful that the new flyover will finally ease bottlenecks and ensure smoother traffic movement along one of Pune’s busiest corridors.
