Pune: Undri Residents Raise Alarm Over Poor Roads, Power Cuts, and Drain Neglect; Demand Immediate PMC Action
Pune / Undri, May 13, 2025: Residents of Undri have expressed strong dissatisfaction with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) over its incomplete drain cleaning work in the area. Despite monsoon preparations being announced, the drain that flows from Pisoli through Bhintade Nagar in Undri towards Mohammadwadi remains clogged with garbage, debris, and plastic waste.
There are several areas where the road conditions are poor and need urgent revamp, such as on Nyati Estate to Undri Marg, Punekar chowk to Dhruv school, Kad Nagar to Undri chowk, Bishops School to Kumar Palmspring, Kumar Palmspring to Mangowoods, Mangowoods to Bhintade Nagar.
The accumulation of waste has caused water from recent rains to stagnate, raising fears of potential flooding and mosquito breeding. The situation is especially concerning near Sanskriti School, where two drains merge beneath a bridge. Blockages in the drain channels beneath this bridge have created an obstruction in the natural water flow, causing the water to overflow onto the roads. This has led to significant inconvenience for residents, and there is growing concern that similar incidents—like a two-wheeler rider previously being swept away in the flooded drain—could happen again.
Local residents have urged the PMC to immediately clear the debris and ensure that the drains are properly cleaned to prevent waterlogging. Sachin Punekar, a resident of Undri, criticised the civic staff for ignoring the spots where water flow is naturally obstructed, stating that despite the municipal body’s claims of pre-monsoon drain cleaning, many crucial areas have been neglected.
Residents now await prompt corrective measures before the next heavy downpour worsens the situation.
