To regulate and monitor pet clinics and veterinary hospitals in Pune, ”The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) initiated a registration process.”  However, veterinarians in the city are hesitant to provide their details to the civic body, resulting in reminder letters being sent.

The PMC’s monitoring committee, responsible for overseeing the stray dog sterilization and immunization program, decided to implement a registration policy for pet clinics and veterinary hospitals last October. Despite issuing letters to veterinary clinics and doctors, only ”17 have shared their information with PMC in the last four months.”

On ”March 4, the civic body issued a reminder letter to veterinary professionals in the city.”  Dr Bhagwan Pawar, PMC’s health officer, highlighted” The significant increase in pet clinics and hospitals in the city without any official record. He emphasized the need for veterinary clinics to share their details, enabling PMC to identify practitioners without the necessary qualifications.

Dr. Sarika Funde, chief veterinary officer at PMC, expressed disappointment in the poor response from private pet clinics and hospitals. She stated that the number of such establishments in PMC limits is estimated to exceed 150. Dr Funde emphasized that PMC currently lacks control over these clinics and hospitals, and the registration process would grant the civic body the authority to regulate them effectively.

Dr. Funde stated that they have requested private pet clinics, hospitals, and vets to share their details with them. However, the response they have received so far has been poor. As a result, a reminder letter was sent on Monday to follow up on the request.

“Once the registration process is complete, PMC aims to establish a new policy for pet clinic registration, with the goal of better control over veterinary facilities in the city.”
