Pune, January 15, 2026: A clerical error in the voter list caused confusion at a polling booth in Pune during the ongoing Municipal Corporation elections, after a male voter discovered a woman’s photograph displayed next to his name.

Ravindra Vasant Javkhedkar, a resident of Pune, said he was taken aback when he checked the electoral roll at the polling station as part of the standard verification process. Instead of his own photograph, he noticed an unfamiliar woman’s image listed against his name.

Questioning the discrepancy, Javkhedkar asked polling officials how his name could be linked to a female photograph. However, he claimed officials expressed helplessness, stating they were unaware of how the error occurred and that it was beyond their immediate control.

As a result, Javkhedkar was required to return home to collect his Aadhaar card to establish his identity. After verifying his documents, election staff eventually confirmed his details and permitted him to cast his vote.

Meanwhile, voting is underway for the Pune Municipal Corporation elections after a gap of nine years. The polls will decide 165 corporators across 41 wards. The contest has become highly competitive, with multiple major parties and factions contesting independently.

In total, 1,153 candidates are in the fray. Pune has over 35.5 lakh registered voters, including more than 18.3 lakh men, 17.1 lakh women, and 488 voters listed under other categories. To facilitate voting, 4,011 polling stations have been established across the city, with two candidates already elected unopposed.
