Pune district, once the stronghold of the Maratha Empire, is dotted with numerous forts that stand as proud reminders of India’s rich history. Each fort has its own tale of bravery, strategy, and culture, making them popular among history enthusiasts, trekkers, and tourists.
Sinhagad Fort
Located about 30 km from Pune city, Sinhagad is one of the most famous forts in Maharashtra. Known for the legendary battle of 1670, where Tanaji Malusare fought valiantly for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the fort remains a symbol of sacrifice and valor.
Rajgad Fort
Often referred to as the “King of Forts,” Rajgad served as the capital of the Maratha Empire for nearly 25 years. Its massive structure, strategic location, and historical importance make it one of the most significant forts in the region.
Purandar Fort

Tung & Tikona Forts
