Pune’s ‘Sharma Ji Ka Aata’ Scales to ₹1 Cr Monthly Revenue After Shark Tank India Investment
Pune-based homemade flour brand ‘Sharma Ji Ka Aata’ has witnessed remarkable growth after securing funding on Shark Tank India. Founded by Sangeeta Sharma, the direct-to-consumer (D2C) startup has surged from earning ₹1 lakh per month to nearly ₹1 crore in revenue within just 18 months. Investor Anupam Mittal, founder and CEO of People Group, recently shared the brand’s inspiring journey on LinkedIn.
According to Mittal, the company’s founder, Sangeeta Sharma, started grinding her own atta in 2016 after discovering that store-bought flour contained chemicals and additives. In his post, he outlined the key factors behind the company’s success:

The Inspiration Behind the Brand
Sangeeta Sharma’s entrepreneurial journey began in 2016, driven by personal challenges. Her son suffered a severe intestinal injury, and her husband had a cardiac arrest. During a routine grocery shopping trip, she was shocked to discover that commercially available atta contained chemicals and additives. Concerned for her family’s health, she started grinding her own flour at home.
What began as a personal initiative soon gained traction as friends and neighbors took an interest in her unadulterated flour. Demand grew organically, eventually transforming into a full-fledged business.
Key Lessons from Success
Reflecting on the startup’s growth, Mittal shared three crucial takeaways from its success: entrepreneurs often start by solving a personal problem, they prioritize passion and product over excessive planning, and authenticity helps a brand resonate with customers.
“For me, this investment is more than just a business venture—it’s a mission,” Mittal noted. He also shared how he has formed a close bond with the Sharmas, who now affectionately call him ‘Sharmaji ka beta.’
Expansion and Growth
When Sharma Ji Ka Aata featured on Shark Tank India, it was operating from a small chakki in Pune, generating ₹1 lakh per month in revenue. Mittal invested ₹40 lakh in the business, recognizing its potential. Since then, the brand has expanded significantly, now running a 20,000 sq. ft. factory and nearing ₹1 crore in monthly revenue.
While Sangeeta Sharma continues to focus on product quality, her sons, Pranav and Tanishq, manage operations and business growth, ensuring the company scales efficiently.
With its rapid expansion, Sharma Ji Ka Aata is on track to becoming a major player in the D2C market, setting an example for aspiring entrepreneurs.
