Ever since the Pune Municipal Corporation has closed the access to Pune Cantonment Board area through Bhairoba Nala bridge, the alternate access road to the area was made available for commuting. But the kutcha road is not proving beneficial as it is rocky and unclean too.

The Bhairoba Nala bridge was closed on october 27 to rebuild the bridge as it had become risky to drive over. PMC alongwith PCB and traffic department have set up barricades to divert the traffic to the alternate road.

When Pune Pulse spoke to Ganesh Puram, engineer, drainage department, he said, “The kutcha road on the Canning road or next to Netaji Nagar will be shortly resurfaced as the traffic has been diverted to Canning road and Shinde Chhatri road. The new bridge will be 13 meter wide and 24 meter wide in the next 3 months. PMC has set aside a budget of Rs 3 crores for building of this bridge.”

Puram further stated that the work for resurfacing should start soon. Concerned road department is working on it to expedite the resurfacing work of this stretch.

Anupam Bir, a resident of Ganga Satellite society said, “The residents are having a tough time crossing this stretch of road. Residents are diverted through the parallel road Canning Road, Shinde Chhatri road and Lulla Nagar junction. The height of the new bridge would be increased to curb any water logging.

Another resident of the area complained that the parallel road must be cleaned as well as must be resurfaced immediately. The structural audit of the bridge on the Canning Road must be done too, as it was unused for many years and suddenly it has many vehicles plying over it.
