In a significant boost to the Indian cricket team, wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has been declared fit for the second Test against New Zealand in Pune, starting October 24. Pant had suffered a knee injury on the second day of the first Test in Bengaluru, sparking concerns about his availability.

Despite initial worries, Pant demonstrated remarkable resilience by taking the field for India’s second innings. Although visibly in pain, he scored a valiant 99 off 105 balls, showcasing his unwavering dedication to the team. The 26-year-old had undergone major surgeries after a life-threatening car accident in December 2022, keeping him out of action for nearly a year and a half.

Captain Rohit Sharma emphasized the team’s cautious approach to Pant’s injury, citing his traumatic experience. “He’s had a massive operation on his leg… minor surgeries, one big surgery on his knee… he went through a lot of trauma,” Rohit said. “We’re being extra careful.” Pant’s determination was evident as he battled through discomfort, often hobbling between wickets.

Pant’s recovery has alleviated concerns, and he is now set to feature in the Pune Test. His availability will bolster India’s batting lineup and provide stability behind the stumps. With Pant’s fitness confirmed, the focus shifts to the team’s strategy and preparation for the second Test.

The Indian team will look to build on their performance in the first Test, where Pant’s courageous knock helped salvage a draw. As the series intensifies, Pant’s presence will be crucial in the quest for victory. The second Test begins on October 24 at the MCA Stadium in Pune.
