RPO Pune Issues 4.35 Lakh Passports In 2024, Introduces 'D2A2' Framework
The Regional Passport Office (RPO) in Pune has achieved a significant milestone by issuing over 4.35 lakh passports in 2024. Despite facing challenges due to a surge in no-show appointments during the festive season and election period, the RPO has taken proactive steps to streamline the passport issuance process.

Dr. Arjun Deore, Regional Passport Officer, Pune stated that the RPO has introduced a special provision at PSK Pune to accommodate over 100 applicants daily, enabling them to complete their partially submitted applications. To further simplify the process, the RPO has urged applicants to follow the ‘D2A2’ framework, which stands for documents, details, application, and appointment.
Under the D2A2 system, applicants must ensure they have the necessary documents, including a QR-coded birth certificate with Aadhaar linkage, latest complete eAadhaar, and Class X passing certificate for non-ECR status. Minor applicants require additional documents, such as Annexure D and parents’ passports.
One of the significant challenges faced by the RPO is name mismatches, particularly among married women in Maharashtra. To avoid delays, applicants are advised to cross-verify all personal and family details across documents before submitting applications online and scheduling appointments.
The RPO has also issued a warning against using privately printed “smart ID cards,” emphasizing that only original, government-issued documents are accepted. To meet the growing demand for passport services, the RPO continues to maintain extended appointment slots across various centers under its jurisdiction.
With the introduction of the ‘D2A2’ framework, the RPO aims to provide a more efficient and streamlined passport issuance process, ensuring that applicants can obtain their passports with ease.
