Rs. 53,500 Fine for 19 Seconds of Fame? Couple’s Viral Bike Act Backfires
A video of a couple performing a bike stunt on the Noida-Greater Noida Motorway has gone viral on social media. The 19-second video was shot on June 15 by another motorist in a passing car.
In the video, the woman is sitting on the fuel tank of a motorcycle, facing the man riding it. She is hugging him while the bike is in motion. Neither of them is wearing a helmet. The video also shows the bike speeding on the motorway while the couple ignores all traffic safety rules. The registration number of the bike is clearly visible in the clip.
After the video was widely shared online, the Noida Traffic Police took note of the incident. They issued a fine of ₹53,500 to the owner of the bike. The action was confirmed by the police through their official account on X (formerly Twitter). In their statement, they said that they had issued an e-challan after checking the video and identifying the bike.
Lakhan Singh Yadav, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Gautam Buddh Nagar, said that both the man and the woman in the video broke traffic rules. The police are now trying to identify the man seen in the video.
He said, “The video came to notice through social media in which a boy and his co-rider were seen flouting traffic norms. After that, a challan of Rs 55,000 has been issued to them for flouting traffic norms.” He also said that such behaviour is dangerous and warned others not to repeat it.
The fine was issued for multiple violations. These include riding without helmets, dangerous driving, and allowing a passenger to sit in a risky position. The police said that strong action would continue against people who break traffic rules.
The Noida-Greater Noida Motorway is a high-speed road where safety rules are very important. This is not the first time such a video has gone viral from this area. The police have asked the public to follow traffic rules to avoid accidents and legal trouble.
Officials also said that social media is helping in reporting such cases. They said that action will be taken whenever videos like this are shared online. The police have urged young people, in particular, to be careful on the roads and not try such stunts.
