In a significant move to enhance road safety and accountability, Superintendent of Police (SP) Traffic Rahul Gupta has announced a new regulation for vehicle rentals in Goa. Effective immediately, individuals seeking to rent cars or bikes must sign an undertaking before using Goan roads. This initiative aims to cultivate a sense of responsibility among renters, emphasizing adherence to traffic regulations and responsible driving practices.

By signing the undertaking, renters commit to obeying traffic laws, driving with caution, and ensuring the safety of fellow road users. The introduction of this rule addresses concerns over the escalating number of accidents on Goan roads and emphasizes the need for stricter measures to discourage reckless driving, especially with the growing influx of tourists and locals availing rental services.

SP Traffic emphasized the significance of the undertaking, framing it as an agreement between renters and rental agencies that reinforces the shared responsibility to prioritize safety on Goan roads. Violation of the terms outlined in the undertaking may lead to penalties or legal consequences for the parties involved.

Gupta highlighted that the rule aims to address the issue of tourists being negligent about traffic rules during their holidays in Goa. The unfamiliarity of vacationers with the local topography often contributes to accidents, prompting the authorities to take proactive measures to promote a culture of responsibility and adherence to road rules.
