Pune : The Advanced Cardiac Centre, Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendra, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and Liquid Medical Oxygen Tank at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Cantonment Specialty and Critical Care Hospital in Pune Cantonment Board were inaugurated on August 21.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Lt Gen Ajay Kumar, AVSM, YSM, SM, VSM, GOC-in-C, Southern Command, Pune, and KJS Chauhan, Principal Director Raksha Sampada (Southern Command). Other attendees included Major General Rajendra Joshi, VSM – MG (OL), Southern Command, Pune, Saurav Ray, Amol Jagtap, Prasad Chavan, Navendra Nath – Director, Southern Command, Pune, S. Prabhakaran, Deputy Director, Southern Command, Pune, Brigadier Sandeep Vasudev, SM – Chairman, Cantonment Board, Pune, Subrata Pal, CEO, Pune Cantonment Board, Nitish Gupta, Joint CEO, Pune Cantonment Board, Sachin Mathurawala, nominated member, and other officials of Pune Cantonment Board.

The cardiac care unit, which includes cath labs and six-bed cardiac care units, is being operated through a public-private partnership. The unit will be managed by cardiologist Dr Sunil Agarwal and his team. The newly developed procedures, such as 2D echo, trace test, and angiography, will be offered at a discounted rate. Patients can also receive advanced heart procedures like angioplasty, pacemaker implantation, and intra-cardiac defibrillation free of charge under the Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana.

The neonatal intensive care unit has been established with financial support from The Sproul Foundation, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and CPR Group. This unit will provide subsidized intensive care services to newborns born in Cantonment Hospital and nearby hospitals. It aims to cater to citizens who cannot afford expensive NICU care and meet the growing demand for NICU beds.
