Work has begun on installing the first ‘segment’ on the Bhakti-Shakti Chowk to PCMC metro corridor. The first phase of Pune Metro has been completed, with passenger services already operational on both the Vanaz to Ramwadi and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to Swargate corridors. Citizens are increasingly preferring Pune Metro as a reliable mode of public transportation. Currently, the metro serves around 1.6 lakh passengers daily.

The natural extension of the Pune Metro routes—PCMC to Bhakti-Shakti Chowk—saw the beginning of work on its first pier on July 6, 2024. The construction on this corridor is progressing rapidly. On April 23, 2025, at Khandoba Mal Chowk between Chinchwad and Akurdi stations, segment launching girder work commenced. Segment installation has begun between pier numbers 453 and 454. Out of the 12 segments to be installed between these two piers, 4 segments have been completed today, and the remaining 8 are in progress.

This extended route will consist of 151 piers and 1,337 segments, of which casting for 517 segments has already been completed.

The corridor will include four stations: Chinchwad, Akurdi, Nigdi, and Bhakti-Shakti. It will connect major parts of the Pimpri Chinchwad region. Chinchwad station will link commercial, residential, industrial, and religious areas, as well as the Chinchwad Indian Railways station. Akurdi station will serve residential, educational, and industrial zones. Nigdi and Bhakti-Shakti stations will link residential, recreational, and religious locations, and will connect with city bus depots that serve suburban areas such as Dehu, Chikhali, Talegaon, and Vadgaon.
