Amritsar, Oct 11 : The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on Tuesday banned the use of perfume sprays on the Sri Guru Granth Sahib – the central holy religious scripture of Sikhism – while carrying it in the Gurdwara.

A spokesperson of SGPC – a body responsible for the management of Gurdwaras, Sikh places of worship in states of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh and the union territory of Chandigarh- said many Sewadars (volunteers) and pathis (individuals who read the scriptures) have complained about itching in the eyes and breathing problems due to excessive use of perfume spray.

He also urged the Sikh community to use perfume made from flowers and free from alcohol and chemicals.
