Shocking Negligence In Pune: Partially Burnt Human Remains Allegedly Eaten By Stray Dogs At Vaikunth Crematorium

A horrifying incident has been reported from Vaikunth Crematorium in Pune’s Navi Peth area, where stray dogs allegedly consumed partially burnt human remains. The crematorium, one of the largest in the city, has sparked outrage among Pune residents over this shocking negligence.
The incident came to light on Wednesday, January 8, when videos and photos of stray dogs eating what appeared to be human remains went viral. Former Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) member Abhijit Baravkar raised the alarm, stating that his friend witnessed dogs carrying away partially burnt remains during a cremation. The friend reportedly recorded the incident and shared evidence, prompting Baravkar to lodge a formal complaint with PMC.
Baravkar criticized the private contractor, Nikita Boiler Company, responsible for cremation operations, accusing them of gross negligence. “If dogs develop a habit of consuming human flesh, it poses a serious threat to people visiting the crematorium,” Baravkar warned, demanding immediate action against the contractor.
The PMC has denied the allegations, claiming that the remains were not human but coconuts or bread used during rituals. Manisha Shekatkar, Chief Engineer of PMC’s Electrical Department, stated, “Misunderstandings are being spread. We have spoken to the complainants, and they confirmed that no such incident occurred.”
Despite PMC’s denial, anger among locals continues to mount. They are demanding accountability and stricter measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
