Nagpur: The Central Railway division has proposed the launch of Sleeper Vande Bharat Express trains on the Nagpur-Pune and Nagpur-Mumbai routes to the Railway Board. The Vande Bharat Express is a flagship and highly sought-after train in Indian Railways. To cater to long-distance travel, plans are underway to introduce sleeper variants of the Vande Bharat Express.

Vande Bharat Express is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and is primarily designed for journeys lasting five to seven hours. For longer travel durations, the sleeper variant is being developed. The production of these sleeper coaches is already in progress. Various railway divisions across the country have requested the introduction of this train in their regions. Similarly, the Nagpur division has proposed starting sleeper Vande Bharat Express services between Nagpur-Pune and Nagpur-Mumbai. However, the final decision on launching new trains rests with the Railway Board, as stated by Vinayak Garg, the newly appointed Divisional Railway Manager of Nagpur Division as Reported by Loksatta.

Currently, Nagpur-Secunderabad, Nagpur-Indore, and Nagpur-Bilaspur Vande Bharat Express trains are operational. Among these, the Indore and Bilaspur routes have received an excellent response, while the Secunderabad route has not met expectations. The Secunderabad train takes approximately 7 hours and 15 minutes and connects southern India. It consists of 20 coaches, unlike most routes that have 8-coach trains. A proposal to reduce the Secunderabad train to 8 coaches has also been submitted to the Railway Board.
