Pune, January 29, 2025: A significant initiative aimed at assisting victims of heinous crimes was inaugurated at the newly constructed District and Sessions Court building in Shivajinagar, Pune. Under the guidance of Hon’ble District and Sessions Judge, Pune, and Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Mahendra K. Mahajan, the “Support Desk” (Sahayya Kaksh) was officially launched.
The initiative, conceptualized and implemented successfully by Sonal Patil, aims to provide legal and emotional support to victims of crimes such as sexual abuse, rape, acid attacks, and child exploitation. Through this program, DLSA Pune seeks to empower victims by assisting them in reintegrating into society with dignity.
Event Highlights:
The inauguration witnessed inspiring speeches by Mahendra K. Mahajan and Secretary of DLSA, Pune, Sonal S. Patil. Judge Mahajan emphasized the significance of such initiatives in providing not only legal aid but also aiding in the rehabilitation of victims within society. He called upon everyone to unite in supporting the rights of victims.
Sonal Patil highlighted the role of the Manodhairya Scheme, initiated in 2018, which offers counseling, protection, financial assistance, and medical support to victims, ensuring their rehabilitation.
Impactful Statistics:
Patil shared data demonstrating the effectiveness of the scheme:
- – 2023: Out of 248 applications, 209 cases were resolved successfully, benefiting victims.
- – 2024: Of 402 applications, 338 cases were resolved effectively.
Notable Cases Supported by DLSA and Manodhairya Scheme
- 1. Khelat Police Station Case: Two sisters (ages 8 and 9) were victims of rape and murder under POCSO Act. DLSA provided ₹10 lakh each to the victims’ family.
- 2. Bopdev Ghat Case: Immediate legal and financial aid was provided, with ₹5 lakh granted under the scheme.
- 3. Hadapsar Acid Attack Case: A woman assaulted by her husband and relatives received ₹10 lakh for medical expenses and rehabilitation under the scheme.

The “Support Desk” is a crucial step in ensuring justice, protection, and care for crime victims. Both Sonal Patil and Judge Mahajan pledged continued support for this initiative, aiming to extend comprehensive help to victims.
