Supriya Sule Raises Concern Over Lack Of Marathi Announcements At Pune Airport
Pune: Nationalist Congress Party Member of Parliament from Baramati constituency Supriya Sule has highlighted the absence of Marathi-language announcements at Pune International Airport, calling it a matter of deep regret. Despite being in Maharashtra, the lack of Marathi announcements at the airport is disappointing, she stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
A formal request for Marathi-language announcements has been submitted by Laxmikant Khabia, President of the Sharad Krida Sanskritik Pratishthan, Pune. The demand emphasizes that Marathi, recently granted the status of a classical language, should be given due recognition. Sule stressed that for the preservation of Marathi identity and its promotion, announcements in Marathi should be made at all airports in the state alongside Hindi and English.
Addressing the Union Minister for Civil Aviation, K. Ram Mohan Naidu, Sule urged him to take note of this demand and issue necessary instructions to the concerned department.
The issue has gained significance among Marathi-speaking citizens, who believe that linguistic representation at public places, especially in Maharashtra, is essential for cultural pride. The demand for Marathi announcements at Pune Airport reflects a broader effort to promote the language and uphold its heritage in the state’s public spaces.
