In Pune’s Maval Lok Sabha constituency, a Static Surveillance Team (SST) made a significant discovery. They recovered approximately Rs 30 lakh from a car in Pimpri Chinchwad, just before the polling slated for May 13.

The SST, a unit formed by the Election Commission of India, is tasked with maintaining vigilance over various aspects of the election process. Comprising a magistrate and several police personnel, these teams are stationed at designated check posts. Some teams even include CPF personnel, depending on the area’s sensitivity.

Their duties are to monitor the movement of cash, liquor, bribes, arms, ammunition, and antisocial elements. To ensure transparency, the SSTs are required to videograph their entire inspection process.

A video of the recent car search, conducted by police officials and SST members, has surfaced online, highlighting their diligence in action.
Upon discovering the substantial sum of money, the SST promptly handed it over to the Income Tax department for further investigation. This swift action underscores the commitment of authorities to uphold the integrity of the electoral process.

With the Lok Sabha elections looming, the Election Commission remains vigilant, employing various measures to curb illicit activities that could undermine the democratic process. Through the efforts of teams like the SST, the Commission aims to create an environment where every vote counts and every voice is heard.
