Testing model spotted on roads; refreshed micro-SUV to bring major exterior and tech upgrades

Tata Motors is preparing to roll out a refreshed Tata Punch in early 2026, bringing the brand’s bestselling micro-SUV back into the spotlight. The model, which has earned a strong reputation among middle-class buyers for its build quality and five-star safety rating, is now undergoing final testing on public roads, hinting at an upgraded design and a more feature-rich cabin.

Spy visuals show that the facelifted Punch draws inspiration from the Punch EV, with sharper styling and an overall more muscular stance. The model will continue to use the current 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine but will get significant visual and equipment changes to keep it competitive in the segment.

The biggest changes are seen on the exterior. The new Punch is expected to receive a fresh split-headlamp layout, revised LED DRLs, and a more prominent grille with horizontal slats. A redesigned bumper and updated alloy wheels—likely 16-inch units—add to the SUV’s tougher road presence. At the rear, a tweaked bumper and refreshed LED tail-light signatures complete the updated profile.

Inside, the facelift aims to step up the vehicle’s premium feel. Tata is working on a more modern cabin with a larger 10.2-inch touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, and a redesigned centre console. New features such as a 360-degree camera system, blind-spot monitor, automatic climate control, wireless charging, a sunroof, and upgraded interior trims are likely to be offered. Safety is expected to get a notable boost, with six airbags becoming standard across variants.

Mechanically, the Punch family will remain unchanged. The facelift will continue with the proven 1.2-litre petrol engine that delivers 87.8 PS and 115 Nm, paired with 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox options. Tata is not expected to introduce a CNG variant with this update, although the EV version will continue independently.

In the market, the updated Punch will take on rivals such as the Hyundai Exter, Maruti Ignis, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger and other compact SUVs. Given its strong brand acceptance and improved feature list, the facelift is expected to strengthen Tata’s hold in the micro-SUV segment.

Industry estimates suggest the launch window will fall between January and March 2026, with prices expected to see a minor upward revision. Once launched, the Punch facelift will expand Tata’s aggressively refreshed SUV lineup, following the recent buzz around the new Sierra.
