Technical Glitches Hit PMMVY: PMC Shifts To Manual Registration
The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has been forced to switch to manual verification of documents for the Prime Minister’s Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) due to persistent technical issues with the online portal. This move comes after repeated glitches caused delays in registration and fund disbursement to eligible beneficiaries.
The online portal has been plagued by slow speeds, OTP generation issues, and other problems, preventing beneficiaries from registering directly. PMC’s assistant health officer explained that Asha workers are now registering beneficiaries manually.
The state health department undertook a special drive to register pending beneficiaries, managing to clear 50% of the target numbers since March 2023.
The PMMVY provides monetary benefits of Rs 6,000 to women from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds during pregnancy and until the child turns one year old and is vaccinated. The funds are disbursed in three installments. Launched to ensure nutritious food and compensation for lost wages, the scheme has benefited over 88,000 women since 2020.
While manual registration is a temporary solution, it’s essential to address the underlying technical issues to ensure seamless delivery of benefits to eligible women. The PMC and state health department must work together to resolve these glitches and streamline the registration process.
