“They Waited 11 Years for This Day”: Meet the Couple Whose Wedding Photos Went Viral After People Couldn’t Stop Making Fun of Them
Marriage is a special milestone, a moment many dream of for years. For Sonali Chouksey and Rishabh Rajput from Madhya Pradesh, their wedding was the culmination of 11 years of love, trust, and patience. Yet, instead of only receiving blessings and happiness, the couple found themselves in the middle of an online discussion after their wedding photos went viral. The reason was simple: the groom has a darker complexion while the bride is fair, which led to some users making insensitive comments.
For Sonali, the wedding had always been a dream. “It was always my wish that everyone in the village would witness our marriage. Now, it feels like maybe the whole world is watching,” she says. She explains that what matters most in a relationship is not appearances, but respect, meaningful communication, and the bond between partners. “I don’t focus on what others notice. What I care about is how my partner treats me and how much my words matter to them,” she adds.
Despite the joy of their long-awaited day, the couple was hurt by negative reactions online. Many users criticized Rishabh’s skin color and questioned Sonali’s intentions, suggesting she married him for money or status. Sonali says, “Seeing people troll my mother, my sister, and other family members was very painful. No one has the right to insult someone’s family.” She also addressed the idea that she might have been forced into this marriage, saying, “I had no compulsion. I am very happy, and this was entirely my decision.” Sonali hopes society will move past biases about skin color: “People in India often think fair skin is better. This mindset should change. Color should never determine someone’s worth.”
The couple’s relationship spans over a decade, including years of long-distance love. Their story went viral because of social media users commenting on their contrasting appearances. Some remarks included, “Surely he must have a government job,” or calling the pair a “gulab jamun and rasgulla kind of pair.” While these comments ignored the depth of their relationship, a small group of supporters emphasized that love should never be judged by appearances.
Rishabh also responded to the online criticism. He shared that he had “manifested” this wedding moment back in 2014 and had waited 11 years to see it come true. “Watching her walk down the aisle was unbelievable—I was still dreaming. I tried not to cry, not to be too happy, but the emotions were overwhelming,” he said. He clarified that he is not a government employee but works hard to provide for his family. He added that Sonali loved him even when he had nothing, and their bond grew through the highs and lows of life. Addressing the negativity about his skin color, Rishabh said, “I may be dark-skinned and have faced discrimination, but to my wife, I want to be the best husband. Don’t talk nonsense about someone’s family.”
Despite the trolling, the couple remains grounded and happy. Sonali explained that after years of long-distance relationship, being together finally brings them peace. They have chosen to focus on their happiness rather than the opinions of strangers.
The story of Sonali and Rishabh is a reminder that love is built on trust, respect, and shared experiences, not appearances or societal expectations. Their journey shows that patience, understanding, and commitment are far more important than external judgments, and that the joy of being with someone you love outweighs all negativity.
