Gupta showcased this green initiative on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), where he posted pictures of these unique cards. The card’s bottom line carries a message: “This card, when planted, grows into a marigold plant.” This simple yet profound concept has resonated widely, amassing nearly 500,000 views and extensive appreciation from netizens.

The initiative’s reception has been overwhelmingly positive, with social media users lauding Gupta’s innovative and environmentally responsible approach. One user commented, “Nice initiative towards our environment. Feeling proud for having such a responsible officer in our country.”Another user inquired, “What an innovative idea! Kindly share where to get such recyclable cards printed”, highlighting the growing interest in sustainable alternatives.

Gupta’s dedication to environmental sustainability extends the novelty of cards. By embedding seeds in the cards, he addresses the waste typically associated with traditional visiting cards and promotes a greener future. One user emphasised this point, stating, “A well-driven initiative, sir. Do you also think the government should exercise being environmentally friendly more often?”

The innovative initiative has also highlighted the importance of involving local communities in sustainability efforts. As noted by a social media user, “Shubham Ji, @Yoth2047, has been skilling tribal women to prepare such cards, which include Tulsi, marigold, and many others. This truly sets the right message! Even the papers that are used are recycled, which leads to providing livelihoods to such women.” This aspect not only emphasises sustainability but also economic empowerment, showcasing a holistic approach to environmental stewardship.

In conclusion, IAS officer Shubham Gupta’s plantable visiting cards represent a significant step towards integrating environmental consciousness into a daily routine and professional exchange. Corporates should learn and adopt such methods to reduce waste and promote sustainability. Gupta has set an example for others to follow. His initiative is a testament to the impact that innovative thinking and a sustainable approach can have on both the environment and the community.
