Union Minister for Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat announced a major initiative to elevate India’s tourism sector with the approval of 40 transformative projects under the Special Assistance to States/Union Territories for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme. The projects, totaling ₹3,295.76 crore, aim to develop iconic tourist destinations to global standards.

In a tweet, Shekhawat stated, “Ensuring the whole world sees every nook and corner of Bharat, one iconic site at a time! Our government, led by PM Shri Narendra Modi, has approved these projects to foster local economies and create employment through sustainable tourism.”

The initiative focuses on enhancing visitor experiences through measures such as reducing congestion at popular sites, adopting advanced technologies, promoting sustainable practices, and encouraging public-private partnerships. These efforts aim to make India’s natural, cultural, and historic landmarks more accessible and attractive on the global stage.

Following Shekhawat’s announcement, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis highlighted specific projects for Maharashtra, which are part of this funding. These include:

  • The Ex-INS Guldar Underwater Museum,
  • Artificial Reef and Submarine Tourism in Sindhudurg,
  • The Ram Kal Path Development in Nashik.

Fadnavis expressed gratitude, stating, “These groundbreaking projects will place Maharashtra on the global tourism map, boost local economies, and create employment opportunities. Grateful to Hon PM Modi Ji for his unwavering support to Maharashtra!”

The SASCI scheme underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening India’s tourism infrastructure while supporting sustainable growth and local livelihoods.
