To tackle persistent traffic jams caused by random parking near Pune Railway Station, authorities have now declared a 200-meter no-parking zone around the station, excluding the designated official parking area.

The new directive prohibits all types of vehicles from parking within this radius. However, brief halts for picking up or dropping off passengers—by auto-rickshaws, private taxis, or personal vehicles—are permitted, provided there is no prolonged waiting.

The decision follows a joint discussion between Additional Police Superintendent of the Railway Police Force, Rohidas Pawar, and Deputy Commissioner of Traffic Police, Amol Zende, in response to repeated complaints from commuters.

Traffic police have begun trial enforcement of the rule, and the railway authorities will soon install signboards to inform the public. Commuters and citizens have been asked to submit any suggestions or objections in writing to the Deputy Commissioner of Traffic Police by May 17. These will be reviewed before finalizing the order.

Officials believe the move will ease congestion, especially during rush hours, and improve overall traffic flow at one of Pune’s busiest transit points.
