Travel from Thane to Nashik and Pune to Get Smoother Soon as Vadpe Highway Nears Completion
Widening project on the Thane-Vadpe highway enters final stages, promising relief for commuters.
The Thane-Vadpe highway, a critical link starting from the Majivada bridge, is nearing completion, with 70–80% of the work already done. The 22-kilometer stretch is being widened to a 12-lane road, including two-lane service roads on both sides. Of the 13 kilometers under active construction, the section from Majiwada to Saket bridge is in its final phase and is expected to open for Nashik-bound traffic within the next ten to fifteen days as reported by Sakal.
This development will significantly reduce traffic congestion on key routes connecting Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and Navi Mumbai to Nashik via Majiwada. The road widening project, ongoing for two years, is making rapid progress with over 400 workers engaged in day-and-night operations.
Key updates include:
• Completion of the two-lane cement concrete stretch between Majiwada and Saket bridge.
• Installation of large sewer systems, particularly near the Lodha Complex, to manage drainage.
• Construction of six underground underpasses and 60 drains to streamline traffic and water flow.
The Kharegaon toll plaza has been revamped, with the four-lane road widened and a separate route created for Pune-bound traffic. The 300-meter concrete stretch on this route is complete and open for use.
While the Nashik-bound lane nears completion, work on the Thane-bound stretch from Nashik will begin shortly. Traffic diversions during the ongoing construction have led to a temporary increase in travel time between Nashik and Mumbai by around two hours, with some sections operating as two-way traffic.
Once fully completed, this highway upgrade promises to greatly improve travel experiences for commuters heading to Nashik and Pune.
