The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, a flagship initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is progressing rapidly. The country’s first 21 km long undersea tunnel, a crucial component of the project, is currently under construction.

The tunnel, which will run at a depth of 25 to 65 meters under the Arabian Sea, will be built using advanced technology, including tunnel boring machines and the New Austrian Tunneling Method (NATM). The excavation process is expected to begin by the end of the year, with three giant machines working simultaneously to complete the tunnel.

Once completed, the bullet train will run at a speed of 320 km per hour, reducing travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to just 127 minutes. The 508 km long corridor will have 12 stations, with 4 in Maharashtra and 8 in Gujarat.
