Pune, December 18, 2024: The Union Home Ministry has announced a new visa category, the ‘G20 Talent Visa,’ to facilitate the entry of students, professors, and researchers from G20 member countries for education and research purposes in India. This initiative aims to simplify the visa process for those visiting India for education, scholarships, research, training, and academic projects.

The new visa category is expected to enhance academic cooperation and make it easier for Indian universities and research institutions to collaborate with their counterparts in G20 countries.

A circular issued by UGC Secretary Prof. Manish Joshi highlighted that foreign students, researchers, and professors visiting India for higher education or academic projects often face delays in visa processing. The G20 Talent Visa, introduced under the S-5 subcategory, aims to address these delays and make the visa process more streamlined.

Key Features of the Initiative:

  • Prestigious institutions such as IITs, NITs, IISERs, IIMs, IISc, and IIITs, as well as UGC and AICTE-approved institutions funded by other ministries, will be included in the list submitted to the Home Ministry.
  • The visa will simplify participation in research projects, seminars, and conferences for academics and researchers from G20 countries.

The G20 Talent Visa is expected to significantly benefit Indian educational institutions, paving the way for more efficient research collaborations and academic exchanges with global counterparts.
