Pune Gears Up For Mega Lok Adalat On May 10: Over 1.08 Lakh Cases To Be Settled Across 135 Panels

The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) plans to offer a discount of 10 to 15 percent for resolving legal disputes related to electricity theft during the National Lok Adalat scheduled for September 28.

Sonal Patil, the secretary of Pune District Legal Service Authority (DSLA), mentioned during a press briefing that as per an MSEDCL circular, parties involved in electricity theft cases under section 135 of the Electricity Act will receive a concession of 10 to 15 percent on their bills and penalty amounts.

Patil highlighted that over 35,000 pending cases, covering various issues such as bank recovery, labor disputes, matrimonial conflicts, property tax disagreements, and disputes over water and electricity bills, will be addressed during the upcoming Lok Adalat in Pune district.

She emphasized that the primary objective of the Lok Adalat is to efficiently and affordably resolve a wide array of civil, criminal, and compoundable cases, thereby easing the burden on the formal judicial system.

Patil also mentioned the successful resolution of 33 cases, including a dispute under the Kul Kayda Act, which had been in courts since 1968, during previous Lok Adalats, demonstrating the effectiveness of this alternative dispute resolution mechanism.

According to information provided by DLSA, during the last two National Lok Adalats, a total of 26,05,603 disputes were resolved.
