Pune News: 11 Contractors Blacklisted By PCMC Over Poor Road Works

The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has placed 11 contractors on a blacklist due to their poor quality of work on 14 projects. This blacklist prevents them from receiving any civic projects for a year. The City Engineer, Makrand Nikam, stated that the contractors did not meet the required standards, leading to their blacklisting, with plans to recover double the amount for the subpar work. 

Concerns arose when the contractors bid well below market rates, prompting an inspection by a team from the College of Engineering Pune. The inspection revealed issues such as sinking paving blocks, potholes in new roads, inadequate materials in construction, and jogging tracks with insufficient sand. Despite a show-cause notice, none of the contractors provided a satisfactory response to the administration.

The PCMC administration blacklisted the contractors on Monday for a duration of one year.
