Pune: From now until December 14, Indian residents can update their demographic information on the online portal without paying the standard Rs. 50 fees, as the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has waived it. This is a great opportunity for individuals to modify or correct their name, address, date of birth, gender, mobile number, and email without incurring any charges.

Although updating demographic details in Aadhaar is free and can be done online, updating biometric details such as photographs and iris scans requires a visit to an Aadhaar enrollment center and payment of the applicable fee. This is because specialized equipment is needed to scan fingerprints, iris patterns, and other biometric data. Furthermore, the biometric update process includes verification procedures to prevent fraudulent activities.

UIDAI, the governing authority of Aadhaar, has implemented a requirement for individuals to update their Aadhaar card information every decade. This measure has been put in place to guarantee the accuracy of the data. Additionally, the government strongly advocates for users to update their Aadhaar card as a means to combat fraudulent activities associated with Aadhaar.

UIDAI acknowledges that certain life events, such as marriage, may require individuals to update their essential demographic information, including their name and address. Similarly, when relocating to a new area, adjustments to the address and mobile number may be necessary. Furthermore, changes in familial status resulting from events like marriage or the loss of a loved one also call for updates. Moreover, residents may have personal motives for modifying details such as their mobile number or email address.

The official website of the UIDAI highlights the ever-changing nature of people’s lives, recognizing the possible requirement for modifications to Aadhaar details to accurately represent these changes and uphold the system’s integrity. Consistent updates guarantee that Aadhaar continues to serve as a dependable and trustworthy means of identification for a wide range of services and transactions.

Furthermore, it is imperative to adhere to government regulations which stipulate that once a child turns 15 years old, it becomes mandatory for them to furnish all essential biometric information for an update. This measure plays a vital role in ensuring the continued accuracy and reliability of the child’s Aadhaar data as they progress into adulthood.

Here is a comprehensive guide on how to update your Aadhaar card online:
