The public utility company and electrical board are urging citizens to report any dangerous conditions in the electrical system through WhatsApp.

These threats include broken or dangling power lines, damaged or missing fuse boxes, open feeder pillar doors and exposed underground cables due to digging activities.

To streamline the reporting process and ensure swift action, Mahavitaran has designated specific WhatsApp numbers for different regions.

–         Residents of Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, along with the talukas of Haveli, Mulshi, Velhe, Maval, Khed, Junnar and Ambegaon under the Pune circle, can send their reports to 7875767123.

–         Similarly, for Baramati, Indapur, Daund, Shirur, Bhor and Purandar talukas under the Baramati Mandal, the number to use is 7875768074.

Further regional contacts include:

–         Solapur district: 9029140455

–         Satara district: 9029168554

–         Kolhapur district: 7875769103

–         Sangli district: 7875769449

Mahavitaran emphasises that these numbers are exclusively for receiving information and complaints via WhatsApp only. Citizens should include a photograph of the hazard and a detailed address or location description to facilitate prompt action from their end. In cases where WhatsApp is not accessible, information can be relayed through SMS to the same numbers.

Additionally, Mahavitaran’s toll-free numbers 1800-212-3435, 1800-233-3435, or 1912 are available 24/7 for reporting such issues.

Typical reports should cover incidents like:

–         Broken power lines

–         Hanging wires

–         Open or damaged fuse boxes and feeder pillar covers

–         Unsecured transformer fences

–         Exposed underground cables due to excavation

Upon receiving a complaint via WhatsApp, Mahavitaran promptly forwards it to the relevant divisional and sub-divisional offices. The repairs are carried out expeditiously, and the complainant is notified with a post-repair photograph. For issues requiring further approval, funding or coordination with senior offices, appropriate proposals are submitted, and the complainants are kept informed of the progress.

Pune Regional Director, Ankush Nale, has highlighted the importance of public cooperation in this initiative. He urges residents to actively report any electrical hazards to ensure a safer environment for all. This collaborative effort is essential to mitigate risks associated with faulty electrical systems during the monsoon season.

Mahavitaran also cautions against pasting posters or leaflets on electrical infrastructure, such as transformers, feeder pillars and electricity poles. These actions pose a significant risk of electrical accidents and put the public at risk. Hence, the public is requested to avoid such practices to prevent life-threatening incidents.

In summary, Mahavitaran’s proactive measure to solicit public assistance via WhatsApp aims to enhance electrical safety during the hazardous monsoon months. The utility company’s detailed, region-specific approach ensures that all potential threats are addressed promptly, safeguarding the community against electrical mishaps.
