IIM students of Vadodara, Gujarat have developed the invention of AC helmets which are battery-operated, for the Vadodara traffic police. These helmets aim to ease heat strokes, encourage safety and ensure compliance with the law. They are meticulously crafted, and each helmet includes a visor designed to shield the wearer’s eyes from the sun’s glare and a charging point for an uninterrupted cooling experience in the line of duty.

What sets them apart is their ability to provide almost eight hours of cooling on a single charge. This extended cooling capacity is particularly crucial for traffic police officers who often endure prolonged exposure to the scorching heat.

This initiative was a dire need which arose out of several instances wherein officers suffered fainting spells in the heat. Recognising the urgency of the situation, the Vadodara Traffic Police embarked on a mission to equip their personnel with tools to effectively combat the situation under harsh weather conditions. Only some officers have been issued these innovative helmets on a trial basis and the initial feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Many have reported improved efficiency in carrying out their duties.

A recent video shared by a news agency showcased 3 traffic policemen stationed at key intersections wearing them. The footage received widespread acclaim from the public, with many praising the initiative as an extremely commendable step forward towards prioritising the well-being of frontline workers working for society; it is also a duty-bound effort to protect them.

Responding to the positive impact, social media users expressed their admiration and called for other traffic departments across other states to follow suit. They suggested that similar measures could benefit other law enforcement agencies a lot too.

DCP Traffic Aarti Singh explained that the helmets are currently being tested at six major intersections in the city, with plans to expand the initiative further with its long-term feedback and widespread success.

With the introduction of these one-of-a-kind AC helmets, the Vadodara Traffic Police have not only exemplified the importance of this innovation but also proactive measures to safeguard the well-being of their personnel in challenging environmental conditions.
