VahanScore: Pune Entrepreneur Launches Platform to Report Traffic Violations
Pune has long struggled with reckless driving. Violations like riding without helmets and driving on footpaths are common. In response, entrepreneur Ravi Kumar launched VahanScore, a platform that lets citizens report traffic violations.
Kumar, a cyclist, was deeply affected by Pune’s traffic chaos. His frustration turned into action after a tragic accident in December 2024, where a dumper crushed a family of nine sleeping by the roadside. This event led him to create VahanScore, aiming to improve road safety and accountability.
According to Free Press Journal, the platform allows citizens to upload photos or videos of traffic violations. Users log on to www.vahanscore.com, submit evidence with details like location and time, and categorize the offence. The reports are then validated by VahanScore’s internal team. Once approved, the website generates a post for X (formerly Twitter), tagging Pune City Traffic Police. Authorities then take action by issuing e-challans.
The platform has gained traction, with 300 active volunteers helping upload offences. Over 100 violations are reported daily. Kumar said 65% of complaints have resulted in e-challans within seven days. A local college has also partnered with VahanScore, with students verifying reports and raising awareness.
Kumar believes VahanScore is helping disciplined citizens take action. “It replaces helplessness with agency,” he said. While systemic change takes time, he remains hopeful. “Discipline starts with the inspired but sustains when the indifferent adapt.”
Through public participation and police collaboration, VahanScore is working to make Pune’s roads safer one report at a time.
