Pune, June 29, 2026: The Regional Transport Office (RTO) has urged owners of all vehicles registered before April 1, 2019, to install High Security Registration Plates (HSRP) before the June 30, 2026 deadline, warning that non-compliance will lead to restrictions on several vehicle-related services.

According to the Deputy Regional Transport Officer, vehicle owners who fail to install HSRP number plates will no longer be able to avail themselves of key RTO services, including vehicle re-registration, modification approvals and driving licence-related services connected to the vehicle, except for the renewal of fitness certificates.

Earlier, restrictions had been imposed on services such as vehicle ownership transfer, change of address and hypothecation addition or removal for vehicles without HSRP. The RTO has now announced that additional services will also be withheld for non-compliant vehicles after the deadline.

The transport department clarified that vehicle owners who have booked an appointment for HSRP installation on or before June 30, 2026, will be exempt from enforcement action until their plates are installed.

After June 30, vehicles without HSRP number plates and without prior registration for installation will be liable for action under Rule 50 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, read with Section 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act.

The Deputy Regional Transport Officer has appealed to all private vehicle owners, as well as autorickshaw, taxi, truck and bus operators, vehicle dealers, and government and semi-government departments, to ensure that HSRP number plates are installed within the stipulated deadline to avoid penalties and disruption of RTO services.
