Former cricketer Vinod Kambli is currently hospitalized in the ICU of Akruti Hospital in Thane after his health worsened last Saturday. Kambli, 52, who is facing financial challenges, has received a financial aid of ₹5 lakh from Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to support his medical treatment. This gesture follows public concern sparked by a viral video showcasing Kambli’s health struggles during a recent event.

Kambli, whose only source of income is the pension from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has been struggling to afford the high medical costs. In response, support has been pouring in for the former cricketer. Eknath Shinde’s Officer on Special Duty (OSD), Mangesh Chivate, visited Kambli at the hospital to ensure that his treatment proceeds smoothly and to gather updates from the attending doctors. Chivate reassured Kambli that all necessary assistance would be provided.

Kambli expressed his gratitude for the support and personally thanked Deputy CM Shinde for his generous contribution. He also invited Shinde to visit him in the hospital. It is expected that Shinde, along with his son and Member of Parliament Shrikant Shinde, will meet Kambli in the coming days.

Kambli was admitted to the ICU for the treatment of urinary tract infections and has been under constant medical supervision. Though he developed a fever on Tuesday, his overall condition remains stable. Doctors are optimistic that he will be moved out of the ICU within a day or two, and he is expected to be discharged in about four days.

Kambli’s Viral Video with Sachin Tendulkar

The recent viral video of Kambli and his former cricket teammate, Sachin Tendulkar, has brought renewed attention to Kambli’s health. In the video, Kambli struggled to stand up to greet Tendulkar, and during a later segment of the event, he attempted to sing a tribute to his late coach, Ramakant Achrekar. However, his voice faltered, which deeply touched many viewers, leading to an outpouring of support and offers to help him during this difficult time.
