With residents of Datta Mandir road in Wakad unaware about the concretization of the road, official says it will take years

Wakad: The work to concretize the Datta Mandir road in Wakad has been in progress for a long time now. Residents, unaware of road concretization, complained about the construction that is on for the last three months causing traffic congestion.

Residents have to wait for a long time to reach their homes, as the alternative routes to their places are far. The work also creates noise disturbing the surrounding areas. Residents having no clue what the work is on for, are demanding that the work should be completed soon.

The resident living in the area, Harshad Deshmukh, said, “Already the roads are narrow and due to the ongoing work, the roads have become narrower and to reach our home which is 400 metres, we have to wait for 45 minutes. Any road work doesn’t take this long to complete. The work has created unnecessary mess and the work needs to be completed soon.”

Ram Wakadkar, a social activist and a political leader from Wakad whose office is near the road, complained, “The work in front of our office is on for the last three months causing problems. We don’t know exactly what is going on but does it take so long to complete the work? We have even complained to PCMC, but no progress is observed.”

Explaining the reason behind the delay in work Rahul Kalate, Wakad Corporator, said, “As it is a busy road, the work is delayed. And during road work, drainage lines, electricity lines and many other underground cables have to be replaced. We have asked the authorities and they have assured us that in the next 10 to 12 days, significant changes will be observed.”

However, the PCMC officials have cleared that the work to concretize the road, to develop a footpath and cycle track is on, which will take a long while to complete.

Ashok Kute, a Civil Engineer at PCMC, said, “This road work will be on for at least 2.5 years as we have to make this concrete road and for this we have to change the electricity lines, drainage lines, etc. Whereas, after completion of the inner part of the road, the other part, that is foot paths, cycle tracks will be made.”
