Weather Alert: IMD Forecasts Unseasonal Rain, Hailstorm Across Parts of Maharashtra

Maharashtra is currently witnessing contrasting weather patterns, with some districts experiencing unseasonal rainfall and thunderstorms, while others remain under the grip of a relentless heatwave.

Despite being the middle of April, a monsoon-like atmosphere has descended over Mumbai and parts of Konkan. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to moderate rainfall in regions like Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Sindhudurg, and Palghar over the next few days.

On Sunday, cities such as Jalgaon, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and Nanded recorded intense downpours accompanied by strong winds for nearly 30 minutes. Several areas in Jalgaon also witnessed hailstorms. According to the IMD, the sudden showers are due to a low-pressure system stretching from western Rajasthan to northern Vidarbha, creating favorable conditions for rainfall across Maharashtra.

The IMD has issued thunderstorms and rain warnings for multiple districts, including Nandurbar, Kolhapur, Sangli, Satara, Solapur, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Jalna, and Beed. Heavy rainfall is expected in Latur, Dharashiv, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, and Yavatmal starting Monday, with wind speeds projected to reach 30–40 km/h.

The increase in atmospheric moisture, driven by rising daytime temperatures and enhanced evaporation, is contributing to sporadic showers and hailstorms in certain areas.

Heatwave Still Unabated in Vidarbha

While rains are offering temporary relief in some parts, regions like Vidarbha continue to experience sweltering heat. Daytime temperatures remain close to 40°C in most parts of the state. Even after brief showers, clear skies often allow the heat to return quickly. However, a gradual decline in temperatures has been noted along the coastal belt over the past few days, suggesting a slight shift in weather trends.

With weather systems shifting and unseasonal rain affecting agriculture and daily life, the IMD urges citizens to stay updated with local forecasts. While relief from the heat is in sight for some, other regions will have to wait a little longer for cooler days.
