After an extended period of anticipation, the long-awaited monsoon rains have finally reached Maharashtra on Sunday afternoon, June 11. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) confirmed the arrival of monsoon showers in Ratnagiri, accompanied by light rainfall in Anand. Typically, monsoon rains arrive in the state around June 7, but this year witnessed a delayed entry into Kerala on Wednesday, June 7.

Favorable weather conditions, as predicted by the Meteorological Department, facilitated the progress of the monsoon winds, which finally reached Ratnagiri on Sunday. The monsoon winds have also made their way to Shimoga and Hassan in Karnataka, as well as parts of West Bengal.

KS Hosalikar, Head of IMD, Pune, shared on Twitter the significant accumulation of clouds along the Konkan coast, signaling the monsoon’s arrival in Maharashtra. Notably, this year’s monsoon rains reached Maharashtra just four days after making landfall in Kerala on May 7, a shorter timeframe compared to the usual seven to eight days.

The arrival of the monsoon in Maharashtra brings relief to farmers and residents who rely on the rains for agriculture and water resources. With hopes for a smooth progression of the monsoon season, it is anticipated that the state will receive ample rainfall, mitigating the impacts of the previous delay.
