Hadapsar and Pashan reported the highest rainfall at 17.5 mm and 17 mm, respectively. Rajgurunagar in Pune district recorded the highest rainfall at 31.5 mm.
The rainfall in Pune comes after several days of cloudy weather, with Friday’s downpour being the heaviest of this period. This marks the second-highest rainfall in May for the city in the past few years. In May 2024, 40.6 mm of rainfall was recorded, while 9.2 mm was reported in May 2023, and no rainfall was observed in May 2022.
The IMD has noted that a combination of weather systems, including a western disturbance over north Pakistan and another trough from the Arabian Sea, is influencing the rainfall across Maharashtra. These systems are expected to continue affecting the region for the next 48 hours, bringing further rainfall to Pune and other parts of the state.
In terms of air quality, the unseasonal rains have led to a noticeable improvement. As of the latest data from the Air Quality Early Warning System (AQEWS), the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Pune was recorded at 74, indicating ‘satisfactory’ air quality. However, some monitoring stations, particularly Hadapsar (104 AQI), MIT-Kothrud (135 AQI), and Karve Road (233 AQI), reported slightly higher pollution levels, with Karve Nagar facing poor air quality throughout the day.
The IMD has warned that the rainfall activity will likely continue for the next two days, urging residents to stay prepared for possible disruptions due to the weather.
